Four Fab Gluten-free Eats in Central

Four Fab Gluten-free Eats in Central

Central has always been a challenging place to eat for gluten-free diners.  Now, thanks to expanding menus and palettes, you and your group of friends can step off the MTR and dine at some delicious places at any price point!  Here are a few of HLA’s recent favorites:

BEP – $$

Vietnamese has always been a great standby for GF diners, and BEP has recently expanded the menu to include zoodles (zucchini noodles) for those wanting to add additional veggies, up the nutrient content, or just to change things up.  Signature gluten-free items on the menu include the beef pho (pho bo – as shown in photo), chicken salad (goi ga), avocado rice paper rolls, avocado salad, and prawn rice vermicelli. BEP does not take reservations, so arriving before 12pm will ensure you get a table.

Fresca – $$

Be sure to hit this cafe early to snap up the most delicious gluten-free steamed muffins.  The chocolate gluten-free tofu muffin is also vegan!  Every day you can enjoy a range of fresh salads and soups.  Always vegetarian, most selections are vegan, too.  Every dish is labelled whether it is gluten-free and/or vegan.  Even though it appears to have limited seating, remember there is dining upstairs, too!  We love being able to watch veggies being sliced, diced, and shredded for all of our favorite dishes. Eat-in and takeaway available.

Cafe Causette – $$$$

Always the perfect standby when you have a special occasion or need extra vigilance on gluten-free dining, Cafe Causette serves gorgeous gluten-free foods and drinks for breakfast, lunch and dinner (plus even some fermented goodies!). Breakfast recommendations include anything with gluten-free toast (house-smoked salmon on GF toast shown in the picture) plus naturally gluten-free items such as the egg white Spanish omelette.  Lunch and dinner delights from the all day menu include the Thai rice paper rolls, French onion soup, steak frites, all the pastas, and miso cod. Reservation recommended.

Mott32 – $$$$$

Only a couple of Chinese restaurants have caught on to the foodie’s desire for gluten-free food.  Dine safely at Mott32 through their dedicated gluten-free menu.  HLA particularly enjoyed the string beans, dim sum, and fried rice!  This menu changes, so come once or come more often and try everything on the menu! Email reservations@mott32.com for a copy of the latest gluten-free menu before you dine and come prepared.  Fried rice, Peking duck salad, king prawns, and the specialty “Buddha Jumps Over the Wall” will have you sitting back and admiring these gluten-free delicacies that everyone at your table would naturally order and  enjoy! Reservation recommended.
